From 5–9 May 2026, the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) hosted an APIE Local Camp, bringing together learners interested in networking, cybersecurity, IoT, and Internet technologies. Organised locally by BUET with strong involvement from APIE alumni, the camp reflects how APIE learning pathways continue beyond the classroom—supporting learners to become contributors, mentors, and community leaders.

The local camp was driven by the initiative of BUET faculty members and APIE alumni, many of whom returned to support the programme as teaching assistants and organisers.
“We made a decision to move forward with arranging a Local APIE Camp… Finally, we made it happen in May 2026, and a lot of credit goes to our TA team, graduates of APIE Camp.”
— Prof. Dr. Hossen Asiful Mustafa, IICT, BUET
Held over five days, the camp combined lectures and hands-on learning in areas including network deployment, DNS, virtualisation, IoT, AWS cloud integration, IPv6, and cybersecurity. Participants also worked in teams to design secure and scalable smart campus networks, applying what they learned to real-world scenarios.

For APIE alumni involved in organising the camp, the experience was also an opportunity to give back and create new learning opportunities for others.
“Organizing the APIE Local Camp at IICT, BUET was a wonderful experience… We hope this initiative will grow into a strong IT hub for future innovators.”
— Arnab Nath, Organising Lead and APIE alumnus
The camp was supported by SOI Asia through equipment, curriculum resources, and guest lectures delivered online by Dr. Noriatsu Kudo (SOI Asia/APIE Lead) and onsite by Awal Haolader (APNIC). While SOI Asia and APNIC contributed technical expertise, the camp itself was implemented and coordinated locally by BUET and its APIE alumni community—an important step toward creating more sustainable and accessible learning opportunities in Internet engineering education.
Voices from the Camp
“It was truly inspiring to see participants from different academic majors showing such strong interest and enthusiasm in learning new concepts in network engineering.”
— Md. Shafayat Tazoar, Teaching Assistant
“Last time we experienced it from a participant’s perspective, this time we learned from the organizer’s side.”
— Rafiea Nusrat Mim, Teaching Assistant and APIE alumna
