The Internet is fundamental to our daily life and more than 60% of the world population are citizens of this cyberspace. However, not many people understand how it works or how it is managed and governed.
In 2022, some of the most prominent players in this field from industry and academia jointly developed the APIE program to encourage more young people to get involved in improving cyberspace together for the future.
The APIE program will help university students and young people in the Asia Pacific region looking to improve their employability potential and build the network engineering and operation skills needed to meet the global demand for Internet engineers in industry and academia, including research and education networks (REN).
This program consists of self-paced online learning components as well as hands-on and community building opportunities in face-to-face projects. It’s designed to be completed in a semester-long period, after which graduates receive an APIE Program certificate. This APIE Certificate of Completion will open up new possibilities for your future!
This program consists of the following four components.
APIE Online provides several self-paced online courses. Currently, the following three online courses are available.
APIE Online certificates are issued for completion of each course.
APIE e-Workshop consists of biweekly online gatherings with guest speakers and facilitators for hands-on activities and discussion. It works best when you join sessions concurrently with APIE online courses as it is designed as a blended learning component for APIE Online. However, you can also join sessions after completing the APIE online courses. The APIE e-Workshop program runs about twice a year.
APIE e-Workshop certificates are issued for participation and completion of the assignments.
APIE Camp is a 5-day onsite camp which provides a project-based intensive curriculum for network design and implementation using skills and knowledge acquired from the APIE Online and APIE e-Workshop components. It also includes collaborative sessions with REN (research and education network) operators in the Asia Pacific region.
The APIE Camp will be scheduled about twice a year.
Please note that completion of the APIE Online and APIE e-Workshop components is required to join the APIE Camp.
APIE Camp certificates are issued for participation and completion of the assignments.
APIE Internship provides an opportunity to join internship programs offered by Internet technology related companies and organizations in the Asia Pacific region.
Please note that APIE Online, APIE e-Workshop and APIE Camp certificates are all required to apply.
APIE Internship certificates are issued for participation.
You don’t need any prior network operation experience to join the APIE program.
Whether you are a beginner or have some understanding of Internet operation and engineering in practice, each course is clearly explained in a way that’s suitable for both beginners and experienced learners alike.
