The APIE (Asia Pacific Internet Engineering) program concluded its e-Workshop series and Core Course Batch 8 with a milestone session—featuring APIE alumni as guest lecturers for the first time.

The session welcomed Alief Fauzan (ITB), Nguyen Thuy Quynh (HUST), Ahmad Zaky Hafizzany (UNHAS), and Syifani Adilllah Salsabila (UB), who shared their journeys after completing APIE and their current work in the Internet and telecommunications industry. Their reflections also highlighted how the program can connect learners to further opportunities beyond the SOI Asia community.
Reflecting on their experiences, Alief emphasized that APIE goes beyond technical knowledge, highlighting the value of the community and connections built through the program. Zaky shared the growth he experienced through the opportunities APIE provided, while Chloe noted that what initially attracted her to the program was its role as a safe and supportive learning environment for beginners. Syifani also reflected on her continued engagement beyond APIE and SOI Asia, and how these experiences have supported her development.
“…APIE is a safe and supportive environment for beginners to learn and grow.”
Nguyen Thuy Quynh (HUST)
The session also highlighted how APIE can serve as a pathway to broader opportunities. Alief, Syifani, and Chloe shared their experiences participating in fellowships and programs with organizations such as APNIC, APAN, ICANN, and APNG Camp, demonstrating how learners can continue engaging with the wider Internet community.
The session reflected the strength of the APIE learning community. Chloe, Zaky, and Syifani are currently supporting Batch 8 as teaching assistants, while Chloe will also contribute to the upcoming APIE Camp in Hanoi, Vietnam—demonstrating continued engagement beyond the Core Course.
In closing, Alief encouraged participants to challenge themselves, stay connected with peers, and reach out to APIE alumni to explore future opportunities.
A series connecting learning and practice
The Batch 8 e-Workshop series brought together students from across the Asia-Pacific region through sessions connecting technical knowledge with real-world context.
Earlier sessions featured speakers from across the Internet ecosystem, including:
- Mariko Kobayashi (APIDT, WIDE Project), who introduced the fundamentals of Internet governance and highlighted how young professionals can engage in shaping the Internet
- Sheryl (Shane) Hermoso (APNIC), who explored the structure of the Internet ecosystem and pathways for engineers to participate in the technical community
- Shin Shirahata, who provided a deep dive into Internet infrastructure, explaining how connectivity is delivered in practice—from fiber networks to BGP routing

Across these sessions, participants engaged with topics ranging from governance and policy to infrastructure and network operations, complemented by discussions and peer exchange.
Looking ahead
Following the completion of the Core Course, eligible participants from this batch will have the opportunity to apply for the next APIE Camp, to be hosted at VNNIC headquarters in Hanoi, Vietnam, and upcoming ones.
