Students Supporting Students: APIE TAs from Indonesia Connect with UNTL Learners

A special online, clinic-style session was recently held for students from Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa’e (UNTL), bringing together around 25 participants with APIE Teaching Assistants (TAs). This activity also served as a follow-up to the APIE Kick-start Workshop held at UNTL last year, continuing efforts to support students as they progress through the program.

The initiative came from TAs at Indonesian partner universities, with the support of UNTL faculty members, reflecting the collaborative spirit of the APIE community across institutions. Held on March 27, 2026, the activity aimed to support students currently taking the APIE Core Course by sharing guidance, experiences, and practical tips from those who have recently gone through the same learning journey.

During the exchange, TAs introduced the APIE learning roadmap and shared their experiences from the APIE Camp, Advanced Camp, and internship opportunities. They also walked students through the OSPF lab, explaining how to reserve virtual machines, complete the exercise, and submit the required report.

The conversation naturally evolved into a Q&A, where students asked about pathways to joining the APIE Camp, required skills, and future opportunities such as becoming Teaching Assistants. TAs emphasized that completing the Core Course and earning the required badges is the main pathway to the camp, while also noting that the program helps students build the necessary technical skills along the way.

According to Teaching Assistants Zaky Hafizzany (UNHAS) and Kesha Mufrih Ramadhan (ITB), what stood out most was the enthusiasm and curiosity of the UNTL students. Their engagement reflected both strong interest in the program and the importance of continued support and encouragement. For APIE, moments like this highlight the strength of its learning community—where students support each other, and learning continues beyond the classroom through shared experiences.
